Dude, Okko The Exiled landed on Steam on September 30, 2026, and the pixel art is hella clean. It is a 2D action platformer where you stomp, launch, deflect and bash your way through Kutala, a land of demons, on a quest to take down the Demon Lord Yalda. Frozen Flame Interactive develops. The official account calls it a pixel art action game made by Frozen Flame Interactive and the pixel artist Moonshen. Eastasiasoft publishes. App ID 3479420. Price $14.99. Single-player. Full controller support. Windows and Mac. Eight languages, Brazilian Portuguese included.

For real though, this is the kind of small team launch that slips past the Steam front page in a busy week. One week in, it deserves a lobby slot.

What is Okko The Exiled?

Okko The Exiled is a side-scrolling pixel art action platformer with combo combat and big boss fights. The store setup is simple: after 1,000 years of concealment, Okko picks up the Mighty Fang and goes after Kutala's lords one by one, to link his isolated world with the heavens and fulfill an ancient oath. Steam's player tags read Side Scroller, 2D Platformer, Pixel Graphics, Dark Fantasy, Metroidvania, Anime and Cute. That last tag matters. The demons have teeth, but the tone is bright and a little goofy. Brazil and Germany both rate it 6+ for fantasy violence.

Between stages you hang out at The Old Throne, a hub where allies sell you items, fill your belly, and drop info, with buried secrets of its own to dig up. One screenshot has a horned character named Gotto calling out "Oh... and, your tail's showing again." That is the vibe. Demon kid, found family, jokes between fights.

Stomp, launch, bounce, shoot

The combat verbs are the pitch, and the trailer literally spells them out on screen: Launch, Bounce, Shoot, Stomp, and more. Store copy adds Deflect and lets you link attacks into combos and send enemies flying across the screen. Then there is Focus Mode, which spends Heart Energy so you can time Okko's hits for extra damage and break enemy shields. That is a clutch button with a cost, which is exactly how a meter should work.

Progression stacks on top. You upgrade Okko's stats and unlock new abilities, and the trailer flashes a Pacts menu with entries like Health Pact and Dash Pact. You also collect Deevols to open Underground challenge levels that test your combat and platforming. Lowkey that is the replay hook for anyone who wants more than the main route.

If you ran the jet punches in Knuckle Jet or the lemur tour in Kalanoro, Okko sits right in that lane, just meaner with the combos and fully committed to pixels.

Asura the Devourer

This still is fire. Okko is mid-air, swinging the club overhead with a huge red crescent slash behind him, while a hulking teal ogre with a wild mane and a horned skull helmet crouches under the hit. The boss bar at the bottom reads Asura the Devourer. Drooping red branches, a rocky floor, teal water in the back. Small hero, giant boss, zero hesitation.

Sabaoth Guardian

Another boss, totally different read. A towering ragged shadow called the Sabaoth Guardian fills the right side of the screen and swings a burning greatsword that sprays sparks across the sky. On the left, slumped stone brutes with glowing cracks and four floating skulls. Okko hangs in the air right between them. The store says these enormous bosses require quick-thinking strategy, and this screenshot sells that line better than any copy could.

What the Gameplay Trailer shows

The official Gameplay Trailer runs about 80 seconds and barely stops moving. Our clip keeps three beats from it: Okko dashing into boss fights against a dark boss, a spiky beast and a horned giant; a burning boss arena into a dungeon shootout; then a row of flaming skull lanterns and a giant beast boss on a red moss stage. No menus, no logo card. The store says the 2D animations are meticulously hand drawn, and the frames back it up.

Is Okko The Exiled worth it?

If you want a tight, good-looking 2D action platformer with real bosses, yes, it looks worth a look at $14.99. Here is the honest scoreboard as of about 11:00 BRT on October 7. Steam's store badge reads Positive, 89% of 49 reviews from Steam purchasers. Counting every review, key activations included, the review API shows 73 positive out of 78 (about 94%). Median playtime at the time of review across those 78 reviews was about 5 hours, so people are sticking around past the first boss.

The team is also patching. On October 6 the official account announced a Steam Input update now live on Steam and GOG, with general bug fixes up next. The specs ask for very little: Windows 10 or 11, 2 GB of RAM, 4 GB of storage. Steam lists Keyboard Only, Save Anytime, Camera Comfort, Playable without Timed Input, Steam Cloud, Family Sharing and 21 achievements. There is also an official soundtrack DLC for $7.99, and the store credits the score to an industry veteran.

Who should skip it: anyone who needs co-op, since it is single-player only, and Linux players, since Steam lists Windows and Mac.

Studio check and what is next

@OkkoTheExiled is the official account, close to 1k followers and active this week, sharing player posts, thanking fans and posting patch news. If you want to see how this genre looks from a big publisher, Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is up next on October 15. And if you want a darker indie metroidvania on the same shelf, Well Dweller is still a sick pick.

Who should queue up Okko tonight

  • Pixel art fans who pause on every boss intro to look at the sprites.
  • Action platformer players who want combos, launches and a meter that rewards timing.
  • Completionists who will chase Deevols and every Underground level.

Okko The Exiled is out now on Steam for Windows and Mac at $14.99. Grab the Mighty Fang, dude. Kutala is not going to bash itself.

The capsule is drawn like an ink brush poster, red and black on cream, but the game itself goes teal water, rust red moss and violet stone. Two palettes, one character, and the white hair reads instantly in both.

  • Junno
    Junno

Deadass a 2D platformer where the boss names are Asura the Devourer and Sabaoth Guardian better hit like those names sound. From the trailer, the bosses fill half the screen and Okko still looks like he is winning. Goes hard.

Reckon the tidy bit is the patch notes. One week after launch the team shipped a Steam Input update and said bug fixes come next. That is proper aftercare for a $14.99 debut.
