October 1 is not a soft anniversary shrug. It is Sucker Punch putting a bow, a patch, and a second life on Ghost of Yotei. The Complete Edition lands on PS5 with the base game, Legends, Digital Deluxe leftovers, and two big October add-ons that arrive with patch v2.0 (October 2 in some territories, including Asia, Australia, and New Zealand). If your PlayStation shelf already feels like a release spreadsheet with a migraine, this one still earns the bookmark.

This is not a day-one scorecard for a year-old open-world samurai fantasy. It is a read on what PlayStation and Sucker Punch are actually selling: a $69.99 Complete Edition stack, a $14.99 owner upgrade, free quality-of-life for everyone, and the return of a Tsushima ghost in a combat survival mode that finally admits the community has been clipping montages for twelve months.

What Complete Edition actually bundles

PlayStation's math is blunt. Buy Complete Edition at $69.99 and you get the award-winning main game, Ghost of Yotei Legends (online co-op up to four players, modes culminating in a Raid, PlayStation Plus required for multiplayer), all Digital Deluxe content, the Charm of Hokkyokusei, plus Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted. Purchase now and you can play the base game and Legends immediately. Echoes and Most Wanted unlock with the October 1 patch.

Already own Yotei? The Complete Edition Upgrade is $14.99. Pre-order that path and you unlock Digital Deluxe and Charm of Hokkyokusei content right away if you never bought them. Pre-order either Complete Edition or the upgrade by September 30 and Atsu gets an early unlock of the Sakai Armor on October 1, a throwback to Jin's family kit from Ghost of Tsushima. Physical Complete Edition also hits October 1 if you still believe in boxes.

The tone of the Aug 12 PlayStation Blog post is anniversary gratitude with a product checklist stapled to it. Fair. The studio spent a year watching fan art, cosplay, virtual photography, and combat reels. October 1 is the thank-you that also asks for another receipt.

Echoes of Sekigahara: Atsu's past, Vipers, heavy steel

Echoes of Sekigahara is the narrative expansion. It splits between present-day Ezo and flashbacks to Atsu's time on the mainland. You meet Nagato, a figure from her past who has arrived in the north. In the present you explore a previously unseen valley once held by The Snake and the Vipers. In the past you live through Atsu's stretch at the Battle of Sekigahara, a key beat before the homecoming vengeance quest that defined the base game.

Sucker Punch is not coy about the loot layer: new enemies, new heavy weapons, new armor sets, new dyes, more. For a game that already sold cinematic horseback solitude and brutal blade work, Echoes is the "we still have rooms in the house" pitch. Standalone lore reminder for anyone late to the party: Yotei sits roughly 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima, with Atsu hunting the Yotei Six across Ezo. Echoes digs into who she was before that hunt calcified into legend.

Most Wanted: bounties, builds, and Jin Sakai

Most Wanted is the combat survival mode, Sucker Punch's spin on a single-player roguelike. You accept bounties to start runs. Clearing enemies earns perks and unlocks additional playable characters. The Aug trailer stack already showed the fantasy cast: Atsu on dual katana, Oyuki on kusarigama, Nagato on yari. That is the montage bait the community has been training for since launch.

Then came the September 3 follow-up: Jin Sakai returns in Most Wanted. Not as a cameo wallpaper. As a playable pressure release for anyone who still hears the wind chimes from Tsushima when a dual-blade animation lands. PlayStation framed it as Most Wanted expanding the combat sandbox, not rewriting the single-player campaign. That distinction matters. You are not getting a soft remaster of Jin's story. You are getting a survival score attack lane where the Ghost can show up again with a bounty board and a timer in the room.

Free for every owner on October 1

Complete Edition is the paid stack. Patch v2.0 is not a hostage note. Every Ghost of Yotei owner gets free drops on October 1 even without the upgrade:

  • Beauty of Yotei: screensaver-style environment mode for relaxing at home and Photo Mode captures
  • New Watanabe Mode tracks across the full game when the mode is enabled
  • Armor appearance versus stats split (keep a look, use different stats)
  • High contrast accessibility option
  • New photo mode stamps, New Game Plus cosmetics, and trophies tied to Echoes and Most Wanted for Complete Edition buyers

That free lane is the grown-up move. Sony and Sucker Punch are still selling a Complete Edition, but they are not gating screensaver vibes and accessibility behind a $15 gate. In a season where first-party calendars are loud (see the PS exclusive crush around Marvel's Wolverine), this is the quieter flex: keep the installed base warm while you upsell the expansion and the survival mode.

Why this October still matters on PS5

Yotei already proved Sucker Punch could leave Tsushima's shadow without abandoning its soul. Complete Edition is the anniversary victory lap with teeth: a narrative dig into Atsu's mainland past, a bounty survival mode built for clip culture, Jin Sakai as a playable ghost in the machine, and a free patch that treats owners like partners instead of upsell targets.

If you never played, $69.99 Complete Edition is the clean entry: base, Legends, Deluxe extras, Charm of Hokkyokusei, Echoes, Most Wanted. If you already live in Ezo, $14.99 and a September 30 pre-order for Sakai Armor early unlock is the adult decision. Either way, October 1 (or October 2 in some territories) is when the Complete Edition claim stops being a store page and becomes a patch note.

The straw hat is still on. The Vipers valley is opening. The bounty board is lit. Atsu's hunt continues, and for one survival lane, so does Jin's.

Proper Complete Edition packaging, that. Reckon October 1 is sorted if you skipped day one and wanted the bow on top.

Dude Legends plus the new add-ons has me hella stoked. For real though, if it's just a price bump with leftovers that's mid.

Lowkey that straw-hat key art still slaps. The palette and the Hannya mask energy are cute but sharp.
