Right, mate, I did not expect a volleyball game to eat my evening, but here we are. just volleyball is an arcade online volleyball game with simple controls and a proper skill ceiling, and its free demo has been live on Steam since October 19, 2026 for Steam Next Fest. The demo runs until October 26, and the full game is dated November 4, 2026. App ID 5037200, Windows only for now, no price listed on the store yet.

The best bit of housekeeping: the developer said on X that your demo progress carries over when the full game releases. Sorted.

What is just volleyball?

The Steam page calls it an arcade style action volleyball game that aims to bring a freeform, addicting and simple volleyball experience to PC, with full online and offline play. You move your player entirely by hand and aim with a cursor, so it looks easy to pick up and then quietly asks you to get good. The store line I keep coming back to: there is no right way to play, it is just volleyball.

What the full game lists on Steam:

  • Every format from 1v1 to 6v6. Singles, doubles, and full team matches, whichever you fancy.
  • Offline and online play. Practice alone with bots, or head online.
  • Character customization. A simple but dynamic avatar creator.
  • Replay mode. Review highlights and capture cinematic moments.

Steam players tag it Sports, Volleyball, Arcade, Multiplayer, PvP, Party Game, Co-op, Cute, Colorful and Funny. No Horror tag, no content descriptors, and no AI disclosure on the store pages we checked for the full game or the demo.

Cursor aiming is the whole trick

Here is where it gets interesting. Instead of a button that magically sends the ball somewhere sensible, you point where you want it to go, and a ring around the ball shows the read. One demo reviewer called the controls very simple with a very high skill ceiling. Another said a 20 minute demo test turned into a five hour session, and that it was the first time they had ever sat in a training mode practicing drills in any sports game. That is a brilliant sign, frankly.

The courts help sell it too. The screenshots go from a grass field and a beach with a palm tree to an indoor gym, a packed stadium, a plain white practice court and, for some reason, a court out among the stars. I am not complaining.

What the trailer shows

Our clip keeps three takes from the official Next Fest trailer (movie 257468028), which is only about 17 seconds long. First, a rally on the grass court that ends in a spike with the ball trail streaking over the net. Second, the indoor gym: a full stretch dive to dig the ball, a block at the net and a spike straight through. Third, a quick rally on the grass and practice courts under the trailer's own Next Fest caption, ending as its play now card comes up. The trailer has roughly ten seconds of clean play before the titles, so that last take carries a bit of on screen text.

What is in the Next Fest demo?

The just volleyball demo is free on Steam for Windows, in English. The demo page lists 1v1s, 2v2s, 3v3s, 4v4s, 5v5s and 6v6, offline play with bots, online play and avatar creation. Steam also lists online and LAN PvP and co-op, shared and split screen, Remote Play Together, DualShock and partial controller support, and adjustable difficulty. Specs are light: Windows 10 or 11, 4 GB RAM and 250 MB of storage, with more detail promised nearer release.

If you are building a Next Fest queue, our Steam Next Fest October 2026 demo checklist is the place to start. Fair warning from one reviewer: the 3v3 and 5v5 options they had in the playtest did not turn up for them in the demo, so your mileage on the in between formats may vary.

Who makes just volleyball?

Steam lists temkosoft as both developer and publisher. On X, @temkosoft has about 4.4k followers, a bio that simply reads "making stuff", and a habit of answering players one by one. In one reply the dev mentioned closing a feedback spot in the main menu because they had received thousands of posts and are one person. Other replies put the price at $5 to $8 USD and say a Mac version might come after launch, since the dev does not own a Mac to test on. Treat both as intentions, not store facts.

The momentum is real. A public playtest went up on Steam on September 23, the "you can now die in just volleyball" clip passed 121k impressions on X, and the demo announcement on October 19 sits at roughly 197k impressions and over 4.1k likes as of this evening. One reviewer called the dev very active with the community and always open to suggestions, which tracks.

Is the demo worth it?

Demo reviews on Steam read Very Positive, with 108 of 112 recommending it as of about 19:00 BRT on October 20. Players compare the feel to the Wii Sports era, a few say it makes them feel like they are in Haikyuu, and plenty describe a quick session with friends turning into hours. The honest knocks: one player found steering a separate cursor annoying on both controller and keyboard, another wants a sturdier practice mode for setting, serving and blocking drills, and one noticed standing receives feel less consistent than dives. The full game has no reviews yet since it is unreleased.

My verdict: proper Next Fest find. If you have a few mates and fancy something competitive that is daft and deep in equal measure, download it before October 26. If you want a licensed sports sim with stats and seasons, this is not that. Same week as the bloodier chaos of KILLSEC, and a much friendlier way to lose an evening.

The art direction is pure living room console nostalgia: chunky round heads, bright jerseys, and a fat ball trail you can read from the far side of the court. Honestly the aim ring around the ball is the smartest bit of UI here, because it tells you where the spike is going before you even swing.

Deadass the cursor aiming is the whole gamble. Half the reviews say it clicks after an hour and the other half bounce off it in twenty minutes, so if the tutorial does not get sharper before November, a lot of people are gonna quit before the game actually goes hard.

Dude, a 6v6 online lobby where everybody is a real player is hella chaotic in the best way. If the full game ships ranked and keeps the 3v3 and 5v5 queues alive, this is the party game my squad lives in all winter, for real.
