Steamworks Store Page Assets for Indies

Ship Steam store capsules, header, library assets, screenshots, and trailer specs from Steamworks docs before review.

Official Steamworks docs header: angled collage of Steam store capsules and library-style banners (Valve)

Store Graphical Assets (Valve). Hover for a Voidge draft sketch inspired by a fragment of the still. This is Part 3 of the Ship It on Steam tutorial series. Part 1: partner account setup. Part 2: app credit and Application. Related: AI disclosure and store labeling.

Legit: Part 2 left you with an App ID and a landing checklist. This build is the art gate. You upload store capsules, library assets, screenshots, and a trailer that match Valve sizes and rules. Wrong pixels stall review. Banned text on a capsule can limit visibility. This guide is the clean install from official Steamworks docs.

Systems walkthrough, not vibes. Prefer Valve pages if anything conflicts with older footage. Sources: Graphical Assets overview, Store Graphical Assets, Library Assets, Graphical Asset Rules, Trailers, Store Page.

Ship it one patch at a time.

What you need before Edit Store Page

  1. Application open in partner.steamgames.com (Part 2 done).
  2. Key art + logo that survives tiny list sizes (Small Capsule is ruthless).
  3. At least five gameplay screenshots at 1920x1080 or larger, 16:9.
  4. A trailer file ready (MP4 / MOV / WMV; H.264 + AAC preferred).
  5. Time to preview in Store Beta Mode before anything public.

Walkthrough video

Store capsules (required)

Valve accepts larger capsule sizes than older guides. Check CURRENT TEMPLATES before you export. Old smaller dimensions are no longer accepted.

AssetSizeWhere it shows
Header Capsule920 x 430Store page top, Recommended, Big Picture, Daily Deals
Small Capsule462 x 174Search / lists; auto 120x45 and 184x69
Main Capsule1232 x 706Home Main Capsule carousel
Vertical Capsule748 x 896Seasonal sale fronts and newer sale layouts

Design that keeps you patched:

  • Key art + logo. One glance of gameplay vibe.
  • No quotes, review scores, awards, sale copy, or other-product promo on base capsules.
  • Logo must stay legible, especially on Small Capsule.
  • Temporary update text goes in Artwork Overrides (time-limited, localized), not permanent base art. Docs: Graphical Asset Rules.

Export from Valve templates and one master layered file so you do not invent a new composition per size.

Library assets (also required)

Library presentation is a separate pack. Assets only appear in the client after the store page is published.

AssetSizeNotes
Library Capsule600 x 900Overview / collections; half-size PNG auto-generated
Library Header920 x 430Recent Games and other slots; falls back to store Header
Library Hero3840 x 1240 PNGNo text; keep critical art in 860 x 380 safe area
Library Logo1280 wide and/or 720 tall PNGTransparent; logotype (+ optional logomark) only

Library Capsule: title / subtitle only. Hero: artwork only. Logo: logo only on transparency. PG-13 everywhere. Sources: Library Assets, Rules.

Screenshots and trailer

Screenshots: minimum five, 1920x1080+, 16:9, gameplay only. No concept art, cinematic stills, awards, or marketing copy in that slot. In-game UI is fine when it teaches interaction. Mark at least four as suitable for all ages when they truly are, or front-page hover placements can hide. Optional page background: 1438 x 810, ambient.

Trailer (Store Page Admin → Trailers):

  • Up to 1920 x 1080, 30/29.97 or 60/59.94 fps, 5,000+ Kbps
  • .mov / .wmv / .mp4; prefer H.264 + AAC, 16:9
  • Audio sample rate 44 kHz or 48 kHz (common convert fails otherwise)
  • Gameplay-first trailer ordered first; categorize each (Gameplay, Teaser, Cinematic, Interview / Dev Diary)
  • First two valid trailers appear before screenshots; rest after
  • Steam builds 600 x 380 poster and 232 x 130 thumbnail; custom must be a 1920x1080 frame from the video
  • Microtrailers (6s loops) auto-generate from the first trailer; not hand-editable
  • Do not release while converting; re-upload sends you to the back of the queue

Docs: Trailers.

Order of operations

  1. Export store capsules from one master + Valve templates.
  2. Export library capsule, header, hero (no text), logo (transparent).
  3. Drop five-plus gameplay screenshots; set age flags.
  4. Upload trailer; wait for convert; set order and category.
  5. Preview in Store Beta Mode. Publish pushes assets to Steam servers even if unreleased.
  6. If generative tools touched capsule or marketing stills, finish AI disclosure before review.
  7. Then Part 4: SteamPipe. Do not Mark ready for review with blank art rows.

Fail states

  1. Small Capsule logo unreadable at list size.
  2. Base capsule full of awards / sale text / quotes.
  3. Hero with title text burned in.
  4. Screenshots that are key art only.
  5. Trailer still encoding on release day.
  6. Skipping library pack because store capsules "look fine."
  7. Content Survey AI answers contradict marketed art.

Checklist

  • Header / Small / Main / Vertical at current sizes
  • Base capsules: art + title only
  • Library Capsule, Header, Hero, Logo uploaded
  • Hero critical content inside 860 x 380 safe area
  • 5+ gameplay screenshots; age flags set
  • Trailer converted; gameplay-first; category set
  • Store Beta preview checked
  • AI disclosure handled if generative assets are player-facing
  • Part 1 timers still on the calendar (30-day wait, Coming Soon lead time)

When those boxes are green, Part 4 ships the binary through SteamPipe without wasting a pretty empty App ID.

Keep open: Assets overview, Store assets, Library assets, Rules, Trailers, Part 1, Part 2, AI disclosure.

Fps locked. See you in Part 4.
