Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter Hits PS5 Now

Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter hits PS5, Switch, and Steam Sep 16-17. Estelle hunts Joshua as Ouroboros burns Liberl.

Mate, Liberl just got its second appointment stamp. Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, Nihon Falcom's modern remake of the classic sequel, unlocks across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam on the September 16 to 17, 2026 window. Steam's storefront clocks September 16. GungHo Online Entertainment America and the official site keep the global day as September 17. Either way, Estelle Bright is back with a red staff, a vanished partner, and a kingdom that is about to catch fire.

This is not a day-one scorecard. It is a read on what Falcom, GungHo, and Clouded Leopard are actually selling: a buy-to-play JRPG remake with clear-data carryover from 1st Chapter, Brave Rush combat links, English and Japanese full audio, and an Ouroboros conspiracy that still wants your evening rather than your battle pass wallet.

What the remake is selling (officially)

Official copy is blunt in the best way. After the coup that shook Liberl, Estelle and Joshua finally become senior bracers. On the eve of the Queen's Birthday Festival, Joshua spills the dark truth of his past and vanishes with a short goodbye. Estelle keeps his harmonica and starts a continent-spanning hunt. Ouroboros steps out of the shadows. The capital burns. A colossal airship darkens the sky. The Shining Ring looms. That is the pitch Steam and the official Trails site are repeating today.

Key features match a remake that learned from 1st Chapter rather than a soft port. Carry over clear data for bonus items that smooth the early climb. New Crafts and S-Crafts sit next to the orbment Arts system. Quick Battles get Brave Rush link attacks so party members stop feeling like menu tourists. Side content expands into fishing, poker, cooking with companions, and fan-favorite characters joining as playable party members.

Price framing from GungHo's April reveal still holds for living-room buyers: Standard Edition around $59.99 on PlayStation 5 and Switch, with a Switch 2 Edition listed higher at retail. Steam is digital at launch. A Golden Wings collector set and a Season Pass of cosmetic drops (cheerleader kits, swimsuit sets, hair colors, orbment covers) land on a September 17 to October 1 drip if you want the wardrobe lane. Digital Deluxe bundles the Season Pass for the people who already decided.

A free PlayStation Store demo covers early chapter vibes with save transfer into retail. Sorted if you are knackered from September's louder pile and still want a Liberl warm-up.

Estelle on the waterfront, Joshua in the rear-view

The Steam still that sells the remake in one glance is Estelle from behind on a sunlit Liberl plaza. Orange twin tails. White and orange bracer kit. Brown harness. Red staff strapped across her back. Teal water and white stone tiers stretching under a hard blue sky. It reads like a holiday postcard until you remember she is hunting a boy who said goodbye and meant it.

Later stills lean into remake face work. Estelle in a grassy field with a sword jammed in the dirt and pink petals drifting. A turquoise-haired fighter carving an X of cyan energy through a forest monster. A dungeon craft with a neon floor sigil while twin tails sit in the foreground. Falcom is not selling a resolution bump alone. They are selling Liberl as a place you want to walk again with modern cameras and DualSense support on PS5.

I reckon that art is half the booking decision for people who bounced off older ports. The other half is the spine: Ouroboros, the airship chase fantasy, and a Liberl crisis that still starts with one harmonica and one broken farewell.

September shelves are already knackered

This unlock does not land in a quiet week. Another Eden Begins just stamped a gacha-free JRPG night across Switch 2 and Steam earlier today. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave shares the September 17 calendar with Intelligent Systems' Switch 2 exclusive SRPG energy. Mid-month already chewed through Insomniac claws and Capcom blades. Late September still has Remedy Manhattan and Konami fog waiting on the 24th.

That is why Trails matters as a living-room counterweight. It is not asking you to learn a live-service map. It is asking you to finish 1st Chapter carryover (or jump in cold), clear a proper evening, and let Estelle's hunt breathe. DualSense support on the Steam feature stack is the sort of bit that makes the remake feel finished rather than half-ported.

If your shelf already has Switch 2 JRPG homework from Another Eden, Trails is the multiplat lane that still puts PS5 and Steam in the same Liberl. Cheers to Falcom for keeping it buy-to-play.

Brave Rush, orbments, and what can go wrong

Official combat language is the remake thesis. Crafts and S-Crafts get louder. Arts still run through orbments. Brave Rush links Quick Battle attacks so the party feels like a unit instead of four solo turns. Side systems (fishing, poker, cooking) are there for the people who live in Liberl between story beats.

The risks are honest. If Brave Rush only adds flash, veterans will clock it. If Season Pass cosmetics outshout Ouroboros on the storefront, newcomers bounce. If clear-data bonuses punish cold starters, that is a scheduling tax in a month that already looks knackered. Falcom's own copy recommends finishing the previous story for the full experience. Fair, and still a booking decision.

I am not having it if the remake hides the Liberl heart behind a wardrobe checklist. The Steam page still leads with Estelle, Joshua, Ouroboros, and the Shining Ring. Keep that order and the appointment stays brilliant.

How I would walk into the unlock

Decide your glass first. PS5 if DualSense and the living-room telly are the point. Steam if you want the digital unlock on the earlier September 16 stamp and a keyboard for the fishing minigame jokes. Switch or Switch 2 if Liberl is a handheld commute story. Confirm whether you are carrying 1st Chapter clear data so the bonus items actually land. Skim the demo on PlayStation if you need a Chapter 1 taste without spoiling the whole farewell.

Do not stack Trails on top of Another Eden, Fire Emblem, and a midnight live-service session and pretend you are clever. Leave one clean evening. Watch Estelle on that waterfront still again. Twin tails. Red staff. Teal city. That is the promise Falcom is selling this week.

September 16 to 17, 2026. PlayStation 5, Switch, Switch 2, Steam. Take fate into your own hands, yeah?

Lowkey that orange twin-tail silhouette against Liberl's teal waterfront is the whole remake pitch. I'm obsessed with the staff wrap and the little pauldron shine.

  • Junno

Deadass a Falcom remake that wants Brave Rush links instead of another empty open-world map. If the Ouroboros arc just rehashes cutscenes, cooked. If Liberl sticks, this goes hard.

Honestly carrying clear data from 1st Chapter into this one is pretty solid. You bet I am clearing a PS5 evening for Estelle and that harmonica farewell.
